Restaurants With Good Views in Chicago, Illinois
by Mary Freeman, Demand Media
Amazing architecture is just one of the many things for which Chicago is well-known. In addition, the city lies on the banks of Lake Michigan and has the Chicago River running right through it. Those seeking a great view of all of these sites while they dine are in luck because Chi-town is in no short supply of high-rise-topping restaurants.

NoMI
High above the Magnificent Mile, restaurant-goers feast on French cuisine. NoMI, located on the seventh floor of the Park Hyatt, can accommodate 120 guests in its main dining room, which is outfitted with crystal-beaded chandeliers and leather-wrapped beams. Aside from views of the Chicago skyline, customers can watch chefs in action in the restaurant’s exhibition kitchen. The restaurant also has a 2,000-square-foot garden and lounge. In the restaurants cellar, wine connoisseurs can try 3,500 of the 10,000 different bottle selections NoMI offers. Along with views of Chicago’s Water Tower, artwork by Isamu Noguchi, David Klamen and Judy Ledgerwood is featured throughout the restaurant. Cite
Since 1975, Cite has sat 70 stories high, at the top of Lake Point Tower, with floor-to-ceiling windows providing 360 degree views of the Navy Pier. Chef Oscar Ornelas has prepared a menu for Cite highlighting French cuisine, fresh seafood and steak. The restaurant serves four-course dinners, and for private events up to 75 offers buffets and customized bar and beverage packages. The restaurant, a AAA Three-Diamond award winner, comes with a dress code of no jeans, gym shoes or shorts; reservations are highly recommended. Grand Lux Cafe
The Grand Lux Cafe, like its sister chain, The Cheesecake Factory, serves up casual, global cuisine with over 150 menu selections. The restaurant, located in Chicago’s shopping district, is right above the Ann Taylor store. Owner David Overton scoured Europe for inspiration for his new restaurant and this is reflected in the Grand Lux’s faux-Venetion decor, velvet banquettes, mosaic tile floors and high ceilings. Open since 2002, the restaurant can hold a capacity of 550 and also offers a bar. Grand Lux Cafe 600 North Michigan Ave. Chicago, IL 60611-3684 312-276-2500 grandluxcafe.com
Riva Navy Pier
Riva Navy Pier, like its name suggest, is located on the Navy Pier; the establishment is also Chicago’s only waterfront seafood restaurant. Patrons of Riva are treated to vistas of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan, while they munch on dishes like Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, Ahi Tuna Filet and Whole Maine Lobster. The restaurant also offers special hotel packages and a “Dinner and a Show” deal, in which Chicago Shakespeare Theater-goers receive a discount on their meal. Sixteen
Sixteen is named for the floor on which it lies at the Trump International Hotel and Tower. The high-end restaurant is decked out with Swarvoski-crystal chandeliers and high ceilings. Chef Frank Brunacci offers an eclectic cuisine making ample use of seasonal ingredients. The menu includes dishes as traditionally grand as the decor is, like foie gras, morel mushrooms and beef cheek and potato roulade. Also with floor-to-ceiling windows, the restaurant provides vistas of Lake Michigan, the Chicago River and the Wrigley Clock Tower. The restaurant also has a glass-enclosed wine gallery, mezzanine-level lounge, Rebar, and an outdoor terrace, which offers casual American fare.
