As if Navy Pier celebrating its 100th year in 2016 wasn’t a big enough event, the state’s biggest tourist attraction is set to host one of the world’s biggest sailing events Friday to Sunday, June 10 to 12, 2016.
The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series is a racing series that pits the world’s best sailors against each other on foiling, wing-sailed 45 foot catamarans. The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series is the first stage of competition in the 35th America’s Cup, which began in 2015. The Chicago stop in the series is one of only five America’s Cup events throughout the world in 2016. The America’s Cup Final will be held in Bermuda in 2017.
The waters of Lake Michigan will serve as a perfect race course for the event. The course is framed by Navy Pier to the North and the Museum Campus to the south. Chicago’s lakefront will serve as a large, natural stadium for the event. Public viewing will take place at Monroe Harbor, the Shedd Acquarium, the Adler Planetarium and of course the prime location of Navy Pier.
Even though Navy Pier Grandstand tickets are sold out, general admission tickets are still available, and can be purchased on the Navy Pier website. General admission tickets provide an opportunity to get close to the sailing action and grants access to entertainment, education and interactive areas throughout the entire weekend.
While on Navy Pier for The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series there is only one restaurant that will satisfy your craving for seafood as you take in the races, and that’s Riva Crab House. Not only will Riva diners have access to a full menu of our fresh seafood offerings, they will also have premium viewing of all the sailing action from our second floor dining room perched above all the action on Navy Pier.
Dining at Riva during the America’s Cup World Series will be difficult, so we highly recommend making your reservations today!
Those looking for a more casual experience, can dine in the Riva Cafe outdoor seating area with a full menu of fresh salads, sandwiches and some of the same great seafood that has made Riva Crab House a Chicago favorite. If it’s a few cocktails and a burger or brat you need, you can also head to the Miller Lite Beer Garden on the south end of Navy Pier. In addition to the sailing action there also is a full schedule of musical entertainment planned.
For a little Mexican flavor, hit up Chango Loco, which offers south of the border favorites with generous amounts of outdoor seating along the Pier.
Don’t hesitate to secure your tickets to The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series. This will be one of the hottest events all summer in Chicago!
